The option lives in the Payment methods card of the discount page: Limit this code to specific payment methods. You pick the methods from the list of your store's payment methods, with the names your customers see at checkout.
Shopify Plus only
Shopify only lets apps hide credit card payments on Shopify Plus stores, so this option is only available on Plus.
- A payment provider funds the promotion. A buy now, pay later provider offers "€20 off when you pay with us". Restrict the code to that provider, so the discount only goes to customers who pay with it.
- You steer customers to a cheaper method. A code that only works with bank transfer, for example, when that method costs you less than card payments.
- A Shopify Plus store. On other plans, Shopify does not let apps hide credit card payments.
- A code discount in Pixoo. A single code or bulk codes, of any Pixoo discount type. Automatic discounts can't be restricted.
- A free payment customization slot. Shopify allows 25 active payment customizations per store, across all apps. Pixoo uses one for all your restricted codes.
- 1
Turn on the option on a code discount
Open a code discount in Pixoo, or create one. In the Payment methods card, turn on Limit this code to specific payment methods.
- 2
Grant the permission, once
The first time, Pixoo asks for permission to manage payment customizations. This is a standard Shopify permission prompt. Pixoo only requests it when you use this feature, and only once.
- 3
Pick the payment methods and save
Select one or more methods from the list of your store's payment methods. The names are the ones shown at checkout. Then save the discount.
Pixoo creates one payment customization in your Shopify admin, under Settings > Payments. Don't delete it: it is what hides the other methods. If it gets deleted, save the discount again and Pixoo repairs it.

Test with a real checkout before launching
Go to your store, add a product, apply the code at checkout, and look at the payment section: only the methods you selected should be there. Remove the code and check that every method comes back.
- Code applied: the payment section only shows the methods you selected. The others are hidden.
- Code removed: every payment method is shown again.
- None of the selected methods available: Shopify shows "This store can't accept payments right now". The customer has to remove the code to pay. See below how to avoid it.
What is covered, and what is not
| The discount | What happens |
|---|---|
| Discount code, any Pixoo discount type | Covered. While the code is applied, checkout only shows the payment methods you selected. |
| Bulk codes, any Pixoo discount type | Covered. Every code of the batch carries the same restriction. |
| Automatic discount | Not available. An automatic discount applies to every customer, so the restriction would apply to everyone. |
| Shop Pay: its express checkout button and customers recognized by Shop Pay | Not restricted by Shopify. The order keeps the discount. Pixoo lists it on the discount page. |
| Point of sale (POS) orders | Not restricted by Shopify. The order keeps the discount. Pixoo lists it on the discount page. |
| Subscriptions, order edits, and draft orders created in the admin | Not covered. |
Shop Pay and POS orders can't be restricted, so they keep the discount even when paid with another method. Pixoo detects orders paid with a method you did not select and lists them on the discount page, so you can follow up.
When none of the selected methods is available
A payment provider may only be available in some countries or for some order amounts, and a method can be deactivated. If none of the selected methods is available for a checkout, Shopify shows "This store can't accept payments right now" and the customer must remove the code to pay.
Match the code to the provider's conditions
Limit the code to the same markets and the same minimum purchase as the payment provider. Pixoo already supports market eligibility and minimum purchase requirements on discounts. The code is then refused when the customer enters it, instead of blocking the payment step.
- Can I limit a Shopify discount code to one payment method?
- Yes, on Shopify Plus. In Pixoo, turn on Limit this code to specific payment methods in the Payment methods card of a code discount and select the method. While the code is applied, checkout only shows that method.
- Why is it only available on Shopify Plus?
- Shopify only lets apps hide credit card payments on Plus stores.
- Does it work with automatic discounts?
- No. An automatic discount applies to every customer, so the restriction would apply to everyone. Use a discount code or bulk codes.
- Can a customer still get the discount with Shop Pay?
- Yes. Shopify does not let apps restrict Shop Pay (its express checkout button and customers recognized by Shop Pay) or POS orders, so those orders keep the discount. Pixoo lists orders paid with another method on the discount page.
- What is the payment customization in my Shopify settings?
- It is what Pixoo uses to hide the other methods while a restricted code is applied. There is one for all your codes, under Settings > Payments. Don't delete it; if it is deleted, saving the discount again repairs it. Shopify allows 25 active payment customizations per store across all apps.
- A customer sees "This store can't accept payments right now". Why?
- None of the selected methods is available for that checkout, for example because of the customer's country or the order amount. The customer has to remove the code to pay. Limit the code to the same markets and minimum purchase as the provider to avoid it.
